Osian Meilir,
artist-on-commission
2023 & 24

Osian Meilir is a performer, dance-maker and movement artist from Wales. They created their first mid-scale production, ‘Qwerin’, as director and choreographer in 2021, commissioned by Articulture Wales. With support from the Arts Council of Wales and the Green Man Trust, ‘Qwerin’ was developed into a full-scale production which was presented at Green Man to thousands of live audiences. It has since toured internationally in 2023. We have been pivotal in Meilir's artistic journey and are excited about what the future holds for the next stages of its development. As part of our commitment to supporting artists long-term, we have co-commissioned Meilir’s new production ‘Mari Ha!’ That was presented at Green Man in 2024.

‘The Green Man Trust has been integral in my development as an artist since I created my first mid-scale production, Qwerin. The opportunities and support I have received through the generosity of the Green Man Trust have allowed me to develop my artistry, create new work and share this with a wider audience that reaches beyond Wales. As a Welsh artist, opportunities like these to platform your artistic vision and voice really are quite rare and with the support I received from Green Man in 2022 to develop Qwerin into a full-scale production, I have since toured the work extensively in England and Wales. Since 2023 we have also toured the work internationally, taking the work to Australia to perform as part of the programme for Ten Days on the Island Festival and Castlemaine State Festival. We have also performed in France as part of Interceltique Festival in Lorient and the Rugby World Cup in Paris and Lyon. I continue to value and nurture my relationship with Green Man as they support a new production for 2024. The connections and opportunities continue to build and my knowledge and understanding of myself as an artist continues to grow.’ - Osian Meilir
